More About UPSC CDS (II) :
UPSC One of the most prominent and competitive exams in India is the Combined Defence Services Examination (CDS) administered by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). It is a point of entry into the prestigious Officers’ Training Academy (OTA), Air Force Academy (AFA), Indian Naval Academy (INA), and Indian Military Academy (IMA). Candidates for the CDS program, which is held twice a year, can apply to become officers in the Indian Armed Forces.
The purpose of the CDS exam is to evaluate applicants’ intelligence, mental capacity, and character attributes that are necessary for successful leadership in the armed forces. Both male and female candidates may take the exam, and each academy has its own set of qualifying requirements.
Young men are trained for a career in the Indian Army at the Indian Military Academy (IMA), which is situated in Dehradun. IMA candidates must be unmarried male graduates with a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university, between the ages of 19 and 24.
Officers for the Indian Navy are trained at the Indian Naval Academy (INA), which is located in Ezhimala, Kerala. Male graduates who are single and between the ages of 19 and 24 who hold an engineering degree are qualified to apply for INA.
The Indian Air Force’s officers are trained at the Air Force Academy (AFA) in Hyderabad. AFA is open to unmarried male candidates between the ages of 20 and 24 who have completed a bachelor’s degree in engineering or science with a focus on physics and mathematics.
Men and women can train for the Indian Army’s Short Service Commission (SSC) at the Officers’ Training Academy (OTA) in Chennai and Gaya. Male candidates must be single and between the ages of 19 and 25. Female candidates must also be single and between the ages of 19 and 25 (for OTA Chennai) or 19 and 25 (for OTA Gaya) if they are widows of defense personnel who died while in harness.
Three papers make up the CDS exam: elementary mathematics, general knowledge, and English (for applicants to the AFA and INA). Candidates applying for AFA and INA will receive 100 marks for the Elementary Mathematics paper, while the English and General Knowledge papers are worth 100 marks each.
The Services Selection Board (SSB) conducts interviews after a written exam as part of the selection process. Officer-like traits including strong communication, problem-solving, leadership, and psychological traits are assessed during the SSB interview.
After passing the written exam and the SSB interview, candidates are subjected to medical exams to make sure they are in good enough physical and mental health to serve in the armed forces.
Following selection, training at the individual academies is advised for the selected candidates. These academies offer demanding and thorough instruction with an emphasis on leadership, physical fitness, and academic success. Candidates are commissioned as officers in the Indian Armed Forces after successfully completing their training, starting a distinguished career of service to the country.
The UPSC Combined Defence Services Examination (CDS) provides a gateway to a rewarding and noble profession committed to defending the integrity and sovereignty of the country, not just an exam. It draws the finest and brightest young minds to serve their country with honor and distinction because it embodies the spirit of bravery, leadership, and sacrifice.
